Why does my white Japanese spitz dog’s fur changes to brown?
I have a Japanese Spitz male dog nearly 2 years old. He is totally white with a thick fur, but I’m observing that his fur is changing from white to brown. He is in good condition, and I bathe him every 2-3 days but the brown fur under his elbows can’t be removed. I have though he might have mites, but I found nothing and he even wears a flea collar.
You are bathing him much too often. Dogs have more sensitive skin than we do and excessive bathing causes dryness and skin irritation. I believe once every week or two is the recommended amount of baths any dog should receive.
The reason he has brown fur under his elbows is likely because when he is in the “down” position, his elbows are on the dirty ground. If you notice he is also loosing hair in this area and it is starting to turn to rough skin, it’s because of the (hard) floor he lays on. It slowly wears away the hair growing in the area. That’s why Dog Beds are recommended.
