Why do parents get so excited with pee-wee sports, but seem to care less by varsity?

Some parents seem so over the top with pee wee sports. Like it really matters if one group of 8 year old from Nowheresville beats another group from East Nowheresville. But by high school, when the games matter somewhat more and the competition’s better, the parents seem slightly more subdued. Why?

Maybe in some cases they figure they have to take them & pick them up anyway, so they might as well stay for the game. The little kids care their parents are there & it encourages them to do their best. Lastly, some of the parents go to visit with their neighbors while watching their kids play. It give them a reason to get out of the house & “visit”. Eddie, I feel if you had a son you’d appreciate it more & understand it better…
