How long does a vet administered sedative take to wear off for a dog?

my dog was sedated at about 8:45am this morning to have a tumor removed from his ear. It is now 10:14am and he is still not alert or able to walk. He is also vomiting. The vet said to just give him more time to get over the meds. Is this normal?

It’s very unusual that you already have your dog back. Most animals stay most of the day and are watched closely by the veterinarian. Your dog also vomiting is a little uncommon. Most animals are fasted before surgery and either don’t vomit, or don’t have anything TO vomit afterwards. In that state of anesthesia, if he is not able to lift his head, he could aspirate the vomit and get aspiration pnemonia. You need a new vet!! One who won’t allow you to take your dog home this soon after a surgery. If you are concerned, you need to get your dog to a vet until he wakes up fully.
