Joining the army to train as a medic?

I am 16 and just taking my GCSE exams this summer and want to have a change of scene and move away from school. I want to be a doctor/Vet or dentist and i have heard joining the army is a really good way to train in this career and you get your training and education fees paid for. Where are there any sixth form colleges to join the army to train in this profession and what do you have to pass to get in? Also what do the fitness tests involve? Thankyou

I’m the tall,lanky type,not muscular,but always been active….fell walking,cycling,etc. The basic training is meant to be a tougherner,but I got through without any trouble,much to the astonishment of the lads at school,whose nickname for me was ‘beanpole’ ….haha,Gotcha!……You can join as a boy soldier at your age,or get into a med school or Uni course through the Army later ,for which they want a minimum commitment,and some time from you during the long uni break in the summer,which you’ll spend with an Army unit,since you’ll already be in the Army…….I’m out of date now,but it used to be six years minimum service,after qualifying…….That’s a fair deal…after all,they’re paying for it. As an Army Medic you can get involved in things that no civvy job will give you. I was on a Malaria project in Malaysia for two years,straight out of Army Medical College at Millbank in Westminster….And you don’t pay your own fares to get abroad,haha….I had two years in UK from 15 years service,nice……It isn’t all Army-Barmy…you get sports afternoons,time off like any other job,and generous holidays…even more if you’re abroad.
