Is my dog too tall for agility?

I’d like to try Agility Training with my dog, but the chute and tunnel look too short. Are these a standard size? His shoulders are about 29″
Yes, he is very leggy. I don’t expect he’ll make a great agility dog, but should be fun for both of us to try it. I had wondered about a giant breed category since the jumps are relatively low compared to the height the smaller breeds are required to clear. It is harder for the big guys to jump though!

All Agility tunnels are a standard size. The same for all heights of dogs. 22″-24″ diameter. Large Dogs like Great Danes, Great Pyrenees & such have to hunker down & crawl through the tunnels. They learn to do this with training & actually learn to do it quickly too.

Added: At 29″ he would fall into the highest jump height for the organization. So depending on the Agility organization his regular jump height would be between 20″ to 26″. So yes, in comparison to what other dogs are required to jump for their height it is much less, much lower than withers height. Some of the giant dogs have no trouble jumping. For others it is difficult or too strenuous for their structure to jump even these heights. Many giant dog handlers opt to run their dogs in a Preferred/Performance/Select class where they jump a jump height lower, so 16″ to 22″, and they get extra time too.
Try Agility & see what your big guy thinks. Some love it & some don’t care for it. You’ll never know unless you try. It’s always fun to try new things.
