My puppy does not poop in the training pads and destroy them?

My puppy its a Golden Retriever and I put a training pad with the liquid its attract to pee and poop on it and it didn’t work… what can I do?

Puppy pads are a big waste of money. Basically they teach your dog that it is ok to potty in the house. Crate training is the best way to potty train your dog as well providing him his own “safe haven”. It is not cruel and it gives them a huge sense of security. Dogs will generally not eliminate where they sleep if they can help it.

Get a crate large enough that the dog can grow into it. Make sure it has a moveable divider. Make the crate just big enough so that your puppy can turn around in it. Before putting him in there, take him outside and wait for him to do his business. Make a BIG deal about it when he’s finished. Clap, give him lots of praise, say “good puppy”, give him a treat. We call it a “potty party” in my house. Take him out 10-30 minutes after he eats, before you put him in his crate, when you let him out of his crate, etc.

Every time he potties, do the “potty party” and he will learn rapidly that this is acceptable. Do not be discouraged if he has accidents, and do not chastise him for them, either. He is young, his body is growing, and he is not always going to have control of his elimination. As he has several accident-free days in the crate, gradually enlarge it. Do not reduce the size unless he starts getting lazy and eliminating constantly in there. Simply keep rewarding him when he does his business outside and he will catch on that it’s the only place to go.

Golden Retreivers are smart dogs and he will probably learn fairly quickly. Good luck and congratulations on your new companion!
