Training Lead
I cant seem to master lead training with my 8 month old pup?
he is about the size of a jack russel(hes a cross) and pulls like mad we have tried everything we can think of to stop him,he loves walking and gets so excited about everything he sees especially dogs and wont stop pullling if he sees one. he has responded brilliantly to every other bit of training we have done with him and is a great dog, i just want to train him properly on walks. he currently wears a harness and is rarely let off his exteneder lead as he doesnt always come back when called straight away. he currently has 2 walks a day. he does however walk well between me and my husband on walks without pulling but obviously we cant both walk him everytime.any tips would be great please. thanks
Use some high quality treats and get the dog to sit and say focus. The minute he does both, give him a tiny piece and make him sit and stay. If you work on this everyday, when he starts pulling, stop and use these commands. My lab pulls to. You can tug the leash by pulling to the side and just stop walking until he gets it. You may have to stop 10 or more times whatever it takes. Work on these steps and you will have success. If he stops and focuses on you treat him right away. Always have a few little pieces not big pieces. Eventually they get it. Good Luck. I used this on my Lab, we work on it still everyday because that is what Dog Training is about–daily basis work. If you continue and keep practicing, you will get a Good Dog. I still have my Lab pull once in a while, like children they are bound to act out every now and again. All the best. Just no yelling.
