Why does my dog scratch the top of her tail?

We have been noticing recently that the top of my dog’s tail is getting raw on either side from her biting it. She even has some small scabs on the raw spots. We are not sure whether it is from boredom when she is in her crate, or if she may have an allergy. Either way, does anyone have any suggestions about something to put on it to make her stop the scratching?

Some dogs get an obsessive compulsive thing with the top of their tail for some reason. They worry it so much they get a sore there and then that makes them worry it some more. Use a bandage to keep her from licking/chewing the area and clean it really well. Some bitter juice on the hair around the area can help stop the chewing too.
