Is it legal to use card stock or printed paper in jewelry to sell?

If you were to make and sell glass pendants, like these ones:http://thecraftyhomemaker.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/100_0623.jpg, would it be legal to use printed paper (like this one http://pumpkincartcrafts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=22), cut it out, and put on the glass tile as the design and sell it? I mean, i figure that that’s what they make printed paper and stuff like that for, but just to be sure, anyone know? I mean, would the company that makes the printed paper sue me for using their materials to make things to sell? Thanks guys!

Buying their paper and using it would be legal. Copying their design – even onto a different medium – would be a copyright violation.

This right – to use something that you bought legally to make something new – was established in a lawsuit brought by Disney trying to stop a woman who was buying Disney printed bedsheets and using the material to make other craft items for sale. The Courts held she did not violate Disney’s copyright because she never “copied” their images.
