How do you keep fleece sweatpants soft?

Well i have some really soft fleece sweatpants but i’m afraid if i wash them they will get all rough because that has happened before. Is there anything i can do to prevent this, any special way to wash them or something? Thank you.

What causes them to get pilled up and scratchy, is they rub against other fabrics in the washer. Turn them inside out, and put them in a pillowcase when you wash them, and hang them to dry.
