Soft Dog Crates

My Dog will urinate on his blankets when in crate?

His crate is hard plastic so I try and give him a soft place to lay and he will pee all over them and sleep in it? Im so confused. I left him in his crate for 2 hours while I went to the store and he had urinated about 2 times on his blanket and was laying in it?

First how old is the dog? Puppies have a harder time holding urine. Also, what breed is the dog? Some breeds are more stubborn then others and require a lot of patience and diligence to break them of bad habits. Normally I would say make the crate smaller so he has no choice but to lay in it. However your dog doesn’t seem to mind laying in his urine. I think I would try the reverse. I would get a much larger crate and put his bedding in one corner and some puppy pads in the other. If you take him outside just before your going to crate him and make sure he goes potty that might reduce it. The most important thing you can do is be patient and love your dog. Being firm is okay when you have to be but remember, they are like babys and require your love to have a long and happy life. I know that sounds cheesey but it’s true. good luck.
