what kind of small pet should i get?

I have a 30 gal aquarium and I am interested in getting a small pet. I was considering getting a chameleon but they seem to be pretty high maintenance pets, not to mention the price tag. I would be willing to consider anything from a rat to a hamster to a lizard, would rather not go get a snake, it would freak my mom out. I just want something that is easy to take care of, and most of all something that will be social with humans and wont bite.

Hello I just read your question. First, I saw that someone said not to put a small animal in glass aquarium. In fact, that is actually one of the most ideal habitats for rodents (that is what pet stores usually carry them in) so don’t be misled by that information. With that being said, I would definitely recommend a hamster. However, it is also very important to get a certain breed, since you say you want a social animal. I know there are always exceptions to what I am about to say, but dwarf hamsters tend to be more aggressive and unfriendly than bigger hamsters. I would recommend a teddy bear (Syrian) hamster, as they are usually very friendly. From the very first day that my sister got her teddy bear hamster until today (it has been about a year) he has never ever bit anyone- strangers included. He is so friendly and sweet, and will even sleep on her neck! So I would definitely recommend a teddy bear hamster just from my personal experience.
