Sleeveless Tee
Want to help me pack for a trip to Europe?
I know you do.
We will be staying in Europe for about 3 weeks, and we are not backpacking but going from place to place in a rental car. We are going to ireland, france, and belgium. Tell me how many of the following i should bring.
short sleeve tshirts –
long sleeve ts -
pjs –
jeans/ pants –
shorts –
jackets (and which kind?) -
socks –
underwear –
shoes (and what kind?) -
sleeveless tees –
nice clothes for dinner (what should i bring?) -
im sure theres more clothes i should bring but i cant think of anything else right now but if you can then tell me! also other helpful things to bring like insect repellant (if i need it) that sort of thing. thanks!
Been to Europe lots of times. My last two times, I actually packed well and really enjoyed myself.
Think–LAYERS! With all the walking you’ll do, you may start off chilly in the morning, but after a day of walking, you’ll need a few layers to peel off. Another big thing–comfortable shoes. You’ll stick out like an American if you wear sneakers (though they’re so comfortable), so I’d bring some really great leather walking shoes with a small heel–no more than an inch or two high—preferably well-worn-in. Aerosoles, Clarks, or Rockports are great!
Next, bring a nice light jacket, maybe black or navy to look a bit dressier. Also, bring a true rain coat/slicker. This might not look great, but I can guarantee you’ll thank yourself when it is pouring in Ireland. (My husband and I wore coordinating slickers. We looked like dorks, but we got the last laugh over other tourists who were soaked in London and Dublin. Also, invest in a tiny umbrella that you can carry in your purse or backpack.
That brings me to the handbag. Try to bring one that goes across your chest. It is much safer and easy to carry. Or, bring a cute tote that fits comfortably over your shoulder. You’ll need to carry your camera, maps, snacks, tissues (many public bathrooms don’t always have toilet paper), hand sanitizer, travel guide, etc.
Also, since you’re renting a car, you may want to make a stop at the grocery store when you first get there for drinks and snacks that you can keep in the car and take into your hotel. It will save money on room service. I remember paying $8.00 for a Diet Coke in Paris. After that, we went to a grocery store, bought a six pack of soda, and had drinks to keep in the car and in our room. Same with bottled water.
Not sure if you have access to laundry facilities or a service. Here is my estimate of what you’ll need based on your list:
SS Shirts–4
LS Shirts–10
PJ’s-4 pairs
Shorts–2 pairs, max–only Americans wear shorts
Underwear–you decide, maybe you can bring a little bottle of Woolite and wash your delicates in a sink
Shoes-Bring the tennies, but rely on a basic leather walking shoe, also bring one dressy shoe
Sleeveless t-shirt–probably wouldn’t recommend, unless you’re layering under a shirt
Sweater–got to bring a least one good multipurpose wool sweater–or buy one in Ireland
Dress–invest in one, simple long-sleeve black dress—I had one that you could hand wash and hang to dry and wore it a ton!
Nice clothes–bring about three nice outfits, maybe you can mix and match if you need more
Also, bring extra contacts, spare pair of glasses, individually wrapped wet wipes (in the napkin aisle), insect repellent (probably a good idea, but I never had a problem with bugs. They seem less bug-prone over there), a good guide book, a copy of the main page of your passport, emergency phone numbers, addresses of friends and family for postcards, and extra memory card for your camera, and a tiny umbrella.
