i thought this was rather cruel to this dog what do you think?

well i was at a sleepover yesterday well last night and who’s sleepover i went to (Beth) had a pet dog but during the night the dog came into the room and pulled a blanket from the bed.
Beth jumped up and grabbed its scruff picking it up, not far from the floor but still from it.
then the dog was yelping and she kept holding it there.
it’s only a puppy. but it was yelping in pain then when she put it down i asked about it and she said ‘well you have your ways of acting with your dogs and we have ours’
but i thought it was cruel picking it up by the scruff and holding it there while it yelped.
have any of you used this method or heard of it?

this was really cruel and there was no need for it. tell her that if she doesn’t want to train a puppy the right way then not to have it.
