Can a salmon based Dog Food be nutritionally ok for a puppy?
Salmon should be fine for your puppy as long as the food is AAFCO compliant and approved for puppies. Yes you do need to watch out for ethoxyquin in fish based foods. But ethoxyquin is not required in the US and there are many foods that are ethoxyquin free. Although it is usually the high end foods. Cheap foods most likely contain it. You can check out your food on Dogfoodadvisor.com and they always list whether or not it contains ethoxyquin, or contact the manufacturer.
You should not feed the same food over and over again. That is what causes food allergies and intolerances. It also causes your dog’s body to get lazy and stop producing a lot of enzymes, which leads to digestive upset if you do switch. Variety is really important. I switch my dog’s food often, after every bag. I also give a variety of different fresh foods, so she does not develop food allergies or a sensitive stomach.
