What is your opinion on Royal Canin brand cat and Dog Food?
I have an 8 yr old, obese British shorthair cat that is sensitive to many catfood brands. He was often constipated and had bright red blood in his stool that smelled awful. The Vet(s) told me that he had food allergies and recommended Hills Science Diet or Eukanuba wt loss diet. I had him on both diets for quite sometime, both left him severely constipated and produced even more blood. I finally tried Nutro Wt Management diet. He has been on it for over a year with no problems and normal stool, but has only recently began having diarhea that smells putrid. He does not receive any human food of any kind. His vets told me to switch back to Hills science diet, but I am reluctant to as it made him so ill. I am interested in using the Royal Canin brand cat food but I would like to know other people’s experience with it before trying it out. Please help.
ROYAL CANIN DIETS ARE GREAT!
If your cat truley has food allergies, he should be on a special diet for that. It just so happens that Royal Canin has foods for cats with allergies called Limited Ingredient Diets. There are four different flavors; Lamb, Rabbit, Duck, and Venison all with Green Peas. The way that these diets work is by using proteins and carbs that aren’t usually found in cat foods, so therefore cats shouldn’t be allergic to them. I have seen many cats with chronic diarrhea get better with these diets. However, for the diets to work, you HAVE to ONLY feed this food fpr 4-6 weeks! I mean no treats at all. This particular diet by Royal Canin is be prescription only, so youwill need to get it from your vet. If they don’t carry it, they should be able to write you a prescription for it so you can purchase it somewhere else.
