Can you override a remote trunk release on a 1996 Buick Roadmaster?

My fiancee’ has a 1996 Buick Roadmaster. He cannot close his trunk electronically for some reason so I’m trying to find out if there is a way to override the remote trunk release so that he can close the trunk manually.

is it a power trunk close, or just power release? if its a power release just unplug the wires from the mechanism in the trunk an it should operate like a normal trunk with out power
