How can i make a basic wireless remote for my walking beam bot?
basically i made a small robot using 2 servos and a pic ic and a few other bits and its all working fine, but , i want to make it wireless using a remote. i’d rather make one but will to buy one if its convenient.
I want my bot to do some basic moves like up,down,left and right.
i have some knowledge of electronics but not too much and should be ok at following instructions if need be.
what parts do i need to do this and what modifications do i need to do to my bot to do what its told?
If anyone has a diagram i can use or website that exactly shows how to construct the wireless project that would be great.

There are a few options.
You could make a wireless link using the excellent and affordable Xbee range of 2.4GHz RF modules made by Digi – I use them myself, and they work well, and are very configurable.

Another option would be to buy a cheap-ish remote-control car or boat, as these are getting very cheap these days, and gut the thing for the RF link. The advantage of this method, is that you can use the hand-held controller virtually as-is, if you pick one with the right number of features.
You would have to work out which output on the receiver would need to instruct your PIC, but I don’t see that as much of a problem.
The real advantage of using the RC car/boat method is that the units are essentially a proven design and you therefore don’t need to design custom data-transmitter module interfaces etc, and with an hour or two of retrofitting, you’d probably have it up and running…
