I want to install a remote start in my 97 taurus?

do I need to bypass a factory anti theft device or something? if so can someone give me a website that provides instructions?

Some of the Taurus models came with an anti-theft system built into the key, some didn’t. Usually the ones that have the chip in the key have a larger key head. If you’re not sure, call your dealer with the VIN number from your vehicle; or you can go to a hardware store and have a cheap metal key cut. If your car starts and runs from the metal key, you don’t have an anti-theft system to worry about.

For wiring information go to http://www.the12volt.com and ask on the forums. Many professional installers use that message board and can help you out.

As for what’s posted above, I have a remote start in my own ’97 Taurus and it’s worked perfectly since I installed it 4 years ago. I’ve put hundreds of remote starts into hundreds of cars, many older than that one, with no problems. If it’s automatic, fuel-injected and starts with the key you can put a remote start into it.
