Red Dog Collars
Any ideas on how to get my dog to stop licking her paw?
My dog started licking her left paw about two weeks ago. I verbally got her in trouble and that helped for a while. Then she got OBSESSED. I ended up buying one of the cone collars and getting some doggie antibiotic cream to put on it b/c it was getting red. It started healing and the hair started growing back…
Then she figured out that if she holds her head a certain way…and stretches…she can still lick her paw with the cone collar on!!
Is there a sort of bandage that I could get? Have you guys ran into this problem before?
Her diet has changed recently. We also got a new kitten. She’s probably anxious I suppose. I’ll switch her food back and try to give her some alone time without the insane kitten running about!!
The wound is on the very top of her paw. It’s not by a nail or her little puppy pad. Just square on the top.
Dogs are capable of aquiring OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) just like human. Each time she goes to lick it, distract her with a toy or treat or say “no” and when she stops, give her a treat. be consistent and she will get better. Give her lots of praise when she stops, with your tone of voice being high. in the meantime. i would get antibiotic ointment and wrap it until it heals.
