Rawhide Dog
My dog ate an entire thin piece of rawhide in under 5 minutes?
My 22 lb dog just ingested a piece of rawhide (thin, looks like a short straw) very quickly. She is new from the shelter and evidently an aggressive eater, and it looked like the rawhide was chewed to a pasty mush, but we’re not sure. She did not want to release the rawhide once we grew concerned.
Will this harm her?
My little pug (20lbs), eats the hugest pieces of raw hide, mush larger than you are describing. He is always fine and of course we watch him and try to stop him from doing this. But he occasionally swollows a large piece. I have never noticed any problems from this…
Shelter dogs are often aggressive eaters because they have had to fight for food in the past. As well, they may have been deprived of food in the past. My other pug is like this, she eats like crazy when we feed her. She has gotten better on her own as she realises the food will always be there. Also, getting a special ‘slow eating’ bowl will help.
We have learned what treats are safe for her and with ones arent. Dont ever give her a tooth brushing treat, or anything hard and big like that. Dried pigs ears have been good for her, because they are large and flat and she needs to chew it to eat it, she cant swallow it whole.
But yeah, dont worry, it will be fine.
