Were can you buy Dog agility, weaving poles?

I thought it would be fun to try something different with my dog. Her names Angel and shes a Goldendoodle and can jump pretty high. just as high as a border collie. were could i buy something close to dog agility weaving poles,jumps, and tunnels for a good price??? In oshawa or whitby? Any clue

I have several answers for you:

1. You can buy inexpensive weave poles at affordable agility (www.affordableagility.com). You can also make your own out of PVC or sticking stuff in the ground. And Affordable agility has something they call “agility in a bag” which is 2 PVC jumps, 6 PVC weave poles, a tire, a chute, a pause box and it all comes in a bag for easy transport to a park or neighbor’s house. It’s about $150 the last time I checked.

2. It sounds like you’ve never done agility before. My advice is that you take a class first. Why?
–agility is an incredible activity. Most dogs love it. And the value doesn’t come from doing the obstacles, it comes from the focus and teamwork and everything you do between the obstacles.
–dogs don’t really get that much out of doing the obstacles. I’ve got a yard full of agility obstacles. My guy likes to go out and run around and race and chase. But he doesn’t take any of the obstacles unless we’re playing agility. Dogs don’t get off on taking jumps or going up A-frames or doing weaves. They get off on working with us or on doing their job successfully.
–if you’re a novice without any kind of training, no offense intended, but you’re likely training your dog to hate agility. Novices without training give off all sorts of cues and make all sorts of mistakes that send confusing messages to a dog. And ultimately that makes agility not fun. And if it’s not fun, it reduces drive. And with no drive, it’s pretty bad–you have a dog not interested in doing the game and not doing it well.
–there are some safety issues (especially with a dog like a Golden) where it’s easy to create joint injuries. Let me give you just a simple example–you said she could jump pretty high. That’s real bad news. In agility, you don’t want a dog that jumps high, you don’t want to see how high your dog can jump and you definitely don’t want to see the maximum height your dog can jump. For certain breeds (and Goldens fall within this category), it increases the likelihood of joint injuries. Even if there’s no injury, you’re training your dog to be a bad agility dog (should you ever decide to compete or just to do a fun course). How’s that? A good agility dog doesn’t jump high–she jumps long and clears the jump by about 1 inch. A high jump bleeds speed and produces bad technique. It also makes it nearly impossible for a dog to combine a jump and a turn.

3. Here’s where you get more resources and information:
–go to www.agilityevents.net it lists agility trials in the US and Canada. Find one near you. Go observe. And ask the exhibitors (ie: competitors) “what is a club/trainer near me you’d recommend?”
–there are a couple of good intro books out that will give you some nice info on agility. One is by Laurie Leach and another is by Margaret Bonham. The best is by Joe and Ali Canova.
–go to the cleanrun website (www.cleanrun.com) and look at DVDs. There are a bunch of good ones to get started with. Anything by Susan Garrett (who lives on PEI) is a good choice.
–there are a lot of agility resources in and near Toronto.
