My dog had a tick. I removed it, but what else should I do?

I noticed a lump on my dog today. I didn’t really know what it was at first, but my dad thought it was a tick. It didn’t hurt my dog when i touched it or pinched it so I figured I might as well cut it off. I decided to get a small pair of scissors and cut it in half. It started bleeding so I wiped it up, and then continued to cut the rest off. It looked like there was still maybe the head or some thing left in the wound, but we couldn’t get it out so I put some rubbing alcohol on it. A few hours later I got some tweezers to ply the head out. It looks like I got most of the head out, but I think there’s still part of it left in there. I put some more rubbing alcohol on it again before I do any thing else. I later read on the proper way to remove a tick, but am I still good? Should I do any thing else?

Healthy, just has some problems with her back legs, but nothing besides that.

Monitor the area for any irritation or swelling. If you don’t remove the entire head, it can become infected. If you notice these symptoms contact your Vet about having the pet seen.

Sounds like the pet isn’t on a flea/tick preventive. That would be the next step. Frontline Plus is very effective, would recommend starting the pet on that to prevent future incidents.

Next, would recommend talking to your vet about lyme disease. Ticks can carry and transfer this disease. Have the pet tested.

Ideally, your vet would be the best consult for any questions regarding your pet. You can’t always get the best info on Yahoo!Answers.

Call your vet in the morning and ask them what they would recommend, that would ultimately be the best advice I can give you.
