At what age would it be safe for my baby to have a plush toy in their cot?

My daughter is 9 months and has an attachment to a soft, plush doll. I was wondering if I let her have this in her cot for assurance during the night whether it would be dangerous at all. When did you (if ever) let your baby have a favorite toy in their cot when sleeping?
