Pink Red

A scab just peeled off revealing a pink/red skin. What can I donow to a prevent a scar and help it blend in?

Had the scab for a nine days, it peeled off on it’s own and has revealed pink/red skin. The skin is not raised or depressed, but the color different. I want this to blend in, what steps can I take now, or in the future to make this happan? (aside from seeing a professional derm).

SELF-TREATMENT:

* Cover up. To help prevent an infection, apply an antimicrobial product with witch hazel or Tea Tree oil and cover the cut with a bandage. “Skin cells seem to regenerate more rapidly in a moist environment, which reduces the likelihood of scarring,” explains Alster.

* Don’t pick. “Scabs are the skin’s natural bandage,” says Alster. “As your wound heals, new skin forms beneath it. If you pick a scab, or even a pimple, you injure the skin further and increase the chances of scarring.”

* Skip the E. You may have heard that vitamin E is the all-time great wound healer (and scar reducer). But a 1999 study done at the University of Miami School of Medicine found that when applied to wounds, vitamin E does nothing to promote healing.

* Know your herbs. Found in many creams and lotions, certain herbs help the skin regenerate more quickly, says Tick. These include rosehips, slippery elm bark, meadowsweet, comfrey, aloe vera and horsetail. Apply to the affected areas three times a day.
