Is a whitewash finish suitable for a pine wood pergola (outdoors)? Will it protect the wood ok?

A whitewash look is the finish I want on the pine, but don’t know if this will provide sufficient protection from sun/rain to prevent damage to the wood in future.

after you white wash, you must use a varnish. Try a marine grade, they stand up to harsher environments.
