Is this true that keeping dogs as domestic pets was banned in China until a few years ago?

and only dogs for personal consumption were allowed in China?

BQ: From where did people get their pet dogs after the rules were relaxed? Are these pets non-Han dogs imported from other countries?

You are right in that keeping dogs as pets was banned in China post 1949. I don’t know how some han dogs survived though but surely China has a mix of han and non-han dogs these days.
