We have the Food Safety Act 1990. What legislation / regulation covers the supply of pet-food. ?

So many things can go wrong but how is the industry regulated. Chocolate is bad for dogs due to theobromine content. What happens if a choccy treat is mis formulated. Grapes are reported to be bad for dogs.Some ‘complete’ petfoods should contain genuine nutritional components, not necessarily just things that analyse well. If you know of any other special nutritional issues relating to pets please also add details in your replies.

The standards are similar to those for humans, things not covered are colourants that some dogs are allergic to and there are many hidden ingredients that even the suppliers will not tell you are in their foods. This has been a case for a friend of mine who has a dog with severe allergies that send him skits’. She searched certain companies and asked them about certain ingredients in the food that she knows from the Vet are affecting his health through allergy tests. They would tell her nothing.
visit Defras site and also search the food safety act 1990 ,food standards agency,and the Animal Health act. These documents will tell you the laws required in regards to foods in general whether it be for pets or humans. It will also tell you about withdrawing food for sale, food unfit for consumption.
