Can the Vet give medicine to my pet Rat that might accidentally kill him?

I think my rat has a worm in his intestines, and I need to bring them to the vet. They will most likely give him a medicine. I’ve been reading that sometimes the vets give overdoses, or they don’t know what they’re doing, and I don’t want him to die. Has this ever happened to you? Or think it is possible?

Find a vet that specializes in pocket pets, or exotic pets. Anything is possible; your doctor can give you medicine that might kill you, drugs are not candy and they can have serious side effects. But if your rat really does have parasites they are really unhealthy and can cause some pretty significant problems, including weight loss, and malnutrition. Some mammalian parasites can even be transmitted to humans.

So as a pet owner, it is your responsibility to seek treatment for your pet, and in doing so, seek someone with experience with rats. They aren’t that exotic of a pet anymore and it shouldn’t be that big of a problem if you do a little research.
