Pet Fence Shock
How do you feel about shock collars?
I know people who have used them, but personally I think there are better ways to train your pet. I think training of training not so much as a form of dominating your animal, but more like developing a system of communication between the two of you. Thus, I don’t think shock collars serve as a good method of communication at all. I figure people who use them just don’t know of a better way to train or stop unwanted behavior, they don’t really want to hurt their animal.
Has anyone been shocked by one? I don’t know how they feel. I’ve been shocked by an electric fence, I don’t know if it’s similar. What do you think about shock collars?
I totally forgot about underground fencing. I think that’s okay under certain circumstances.

Seriously, they’ve tested them on themselves (supervised by dad) and it gave them the giggles. They are ages 4 – 12. Go figure. *rolls eyes* Though they were having a great time, I put a stop to that real quick. 
ANY method of Dog Training can be done with domination. That is wrong (sometimes). We’re talking about pack animals here that feel secure when there is a heirarchy in place within their family.
Shock collars are not about dominating anything. They can be a very effective way of communicating quietly to your dog just as a touch would serve as a way of communicating with them if they were always glued to your side within arms reach. Reality is that most dogs are not within arms reach 100% of the time and this is where the “Static” collar can come in handy.
I know a woman who brought this insane dog to the dog park. I recognized his bad fence pacing behaviors and asked about him. Sure enough, he was brought from the shelter and in bad shape. That dog was bound to be put down but she agreed to take him and put in the GREAT effort to rehabilate him. She did this with a static collar. One month later, I saw the pair again. I wasn’t even sure it was the same dog, his behavior had improved so much. A year later, he was a completely new and healthy dog thanks to that collar and this woman’s diligence. There is no way she could have helped this dog long distance. He would have had to be put down. This collar saved his life and helped him to be happy and balanced again.
I train my own dogs. I have done very well with them but came to a point where we kind of hit a wall with a problem that was very important for us to get over. Since I was already familiar with good training methods, I felt I could implement the collar to help us move forward. This was long distance work. It worked like a charm and my Great Dane has not regressed though we have not used the collar for a year. I dont’ forsee a need to use it again as she is a great dog and a very well balanced companion but, I would certainly recommend it to others who would know how to use it properly.
