Does a pet carrier qualifies as a crate, for training & daily usage?

I’m a new pet owner with a rescued, older silky terrier. I bought a plastic pet carrier (for transporting). But he seems fine in the car without a carrier. Can I use the carrier as an indoor crate? Or is it more preferable to get a larger playpen?

Plastic carriers work fine for crates. So long as it’s not a larger dog with a chewing problem. Some dogs can and will destroy those plastic carriers, lol. I don’t think you’d have a problem there with this dog though. Using this as an indoor crate should be fine. Keep in mind when crate training: A dog DOES NOT need excessive room in the crate. They need enough room to lay down, stand up and turn around comfortably. Anything larger then that is unnecessary, and can promote bathroom accidents in the crate.
