how can I get my dog to go back to using house breaking pads?

For the past two years, my dog uses house breaking pads instead of going outside. For the past week, she is going “potty” on the floor in front of the pad. Any suggestions on how to get her back on the pads?

It’s important to praise your dog when she does get it right. If she wees on the pad, wait until she has finished her business, then make a big fuss of her. Dogs love attention, and after you have done it a few times, she will realise that peeing on the pad will get her what she wants – and she’ll do it more.

Once you have got her using the pad again, gradually start to move the pad outside. E.G. an inch a day. Don’t forget to keep praising her.

Don’t worry if she does make mistakes, it’s inevitable. If she does, literally yelp at her in the middle of the business. This will cause her to stop peeing, and she will realise after a couple of times that peeing in the wrong place will give her a nasty shock.
