How to get my dog use to my cat!!?
So, I just got my dog out of a bad situation. We had our friend hold onto him for us while we were in an apartment that didn’t allow big dogs. Anyways, we have him back, and now we’re facing a bit of a problem…
We use to have a few outdoor cats always hanging around our house, and we’d feed them and such, and our dog didn’t mind them much, went up to them, sniff them, sometimes lied down next to them. So I’m not too worried about him..
I just got a new Bengal kitten a few weeks ago, and she is a feisty one. She has been around dogs before, and goes after their tale and tries to play with them, and the dogs don’t really like the claw part. lol
So, I’m wondering, whats a good way to get them introduced? I’m afraid she’ll go after him, and he’ll defend himself, maybe even bite her.
(My dog is a big German Shepherd! lol) Any tips or advice mucho appreciated.
When there is a fight between a dog and a cat, I am more concerned for the dog, than for the cat. Cats attack eyes, and they have good claws. So at the beginning do not let them both together by themselves. Stay with them. Observe what they do. Let them come closer and get to know each other. If you will leave you house, leave them separated in different rooms, with water and a place to pee. Anyway, most of the times, older animals are protective to babies of any kind of animals. They know they are babies and most times they get along in a short time. Take one or two week observing what they do.
