What is the AKC Dress code for a conformation show?

Ok, so this is my first show. I’ve already bombarded my breeder with tons of questions and I almost feel bad asking her more questions. All I’m wondering is what the dress code is in conformation show? Like, for females, do you HAVE to wear business suit and skirt, and do you need nylons, certain shoes, etc?
Also, what colors are modest yet stand out? Thanks!

Well, you want to wear colors opposite of your dog…so, lets say your dog is black, you don’t want to wear black pants. If you decide to wear a skirt or dress, make sure that’s its long enough, incase you need to kneel to stack your dog, you don’t want everyone to se “Paris”. You want to also wear comfortable shoes.

I only wear a skirt of dress if it’s summer and I can tell you, I haven’t put on nylons in I can’t tell you how long. I personally don’t wear suits or anything with a jacket or sweater, because I got hot very quickly, so I’m usually in short sleeves.

Don’t wear jeans or sneakers. If you have a long drive, you can always bring the clothes and shoes your going to wear and dress when you get there.

I have 2 dachshunds, both are what’s called “wild boar”, but the male is dark, mostly black, so I can’t wear black pants with him. My female is various shades of brown, so I can’t wear brown pants. So I found for us, grey pants work real well and I always have a nice colored top on. I look best in jewel tones, so those are the tops I wear.

BTW, the whole to short of a skirt issue, happened to me, I think my 2nd time showing my dog. I had to kneel to stack my dog and I felt like I was giving a free show. Lesson learned.
