Is it ok to use a nylon stocking as a filter media bag in a 12 gal (Marineland) aquarium w/5 mollies in it?

I would like to add some Ammo-chips to my filter situation to reduce some of the ammonia build-up (I am doing weekly water changes), but the bags I find in the pet stores are a bit too thick to fit and still let water pass through freely. I thought using a stocking would be a good idea since they are basically made of the same thing but I wanted to ask someone with more experience first since I have only been keeping fish for a short time and still have quite a bit of learning to do. Thanks!

Yeah it will be ok, just make sure you rinse them out thoroughly and don’t use any stockings that you have washed in clothes detergent as the detergent isn’t good for the fish. You can also go to any store that sells material, and you should be able to buy those little tie bags that you can buy to put lavender in or pot purae (sorry about the spelling!). They’d be cheaper then the stocking, and it’s stronger but still thin.
