Nylon Extra Large
Guitar question: What is the best way to string classical strings on a steel string guitar?

I have an acoustic that is made for steel/brass wrap strings, I think it was originally a mariachi type guitar. It has a tailpiece on which is a bent metal sheet with holes in it through which the typical steel with ball end strings go through.

I know it’s not the best thing to do, but I want to.

The challenge is to string some nylon on without having the metal plate just cut right through the strings.

I’ve considered cutting a small mahogany or something makeshift extra “bridge” of sorts with holes in it that would hold the strings and still go through the metal piece.

Or is there a simple way of knotting the ends of nylon strings large enough so as to prevent them from slipping through the holes? Just make a really big knot?

some companies make nylon strings with the balls on them i wouldnt personally recommend you do this. i put nylons on a steel that i had, and it sounded horrible they dont resonate as they should on a classical style body
