Nylon Collar
Are my chihuahuas allergic to their nylon collars or do they just not like them?
I have two 10 week old chihuahuas and they are literally two different dogs when they have on their collars. They wont come out of their beds and they are extremely docile. Normally, they are playful and getting into everything. Any suggestions?
They just have to get used to the feel. (sort of like wearing a bra for the first time)
Try starting with ribbon. Its lighter and doesn’t rub as much. Use paper ribbon (for gift wrapping) first, then switch to cloth ribbon (at a fabric or craft store) when they get used to it.
Eventually try the nylon collars again.
HINT: they will probably object to a leash at first too. The ribbon trick works well to teach them about leashes. Just let them drag about 6 feet of it around until they get used to it.
I, personally, think those little dogs are just so sensitive, they freak out with the slightest discomfort.
They’ll get used to it. Especially if you associate collars and leashes with all things good and yummy.
