prenatal vitamins have a smell now?
I left my prenatal vitamins in the car for a while when it was really warm outside and kept forgetting to being them in the house. Well I’m still taking them but I’ve noticed they have a pretty strong smell to them now. Are they probably OK? Or should I get a new bottle?
They should be ok…prenatals always smell! I have to hold my nose everytime I open the bottle.

Vitamins and Hormones $192 Under the capable and qualified editorial leadership of Dr. Gerald Litwack, Vitamins and Hormones continues to publish cutting-edge reviews of interest to endocrinologists, biochemists, nutritionists, pharmacologists, cell biologists, and molecular biologists. First published in 1943, Vitamins and Hormones is the longest-running serial published by Academic Press. In the early days of the Serial, the subjects of vitamins and hormones were quite distinct. Now, new discoveries have proved that several of the vitamins function as hormones and many of the substances inferred by the title of the Serial function in signal transduction processes. Accordingly, the Editor-in-Chief has expanded the scope of the Serial to reflect this newer understanding of function- structure relationships in cellular communication. The Editorial Board now reflects expertise in the field of hormone action, vitamin action, X-ray crystal structure, physiology, and enzyme mechanisms. Volume 55 of Vitamins and Hormones covers steroid hormone action, and includes two additional contributions on calcium and on peptide hormones. |

Vitamins and Minerals $18 Understanding how vitamins and minerals interact in our body gives us a valuable means of taking our health into our own hands. Research into the effects of these micronutrients has been enlightening. For example, we now know that a large fraction of Americans are not getting enough vitamin D, and the range of consequences may be far greater than we thought. Recent studies suggest that vitamin D does more than help build strong bones; it may help to prevent hypertension, certain types of cancer, and some autoimmune diseases. We also believe, with an increasing degree of certainty, that getting enough folic acid can counteract some of the adverse effects of consuming alcohol. |

Vitamins $288.99 This single-source reference draws together the current knowledge of the vitamins’ biological properties in the context of human nutrition. Vitamins are co-enzymes, antioxidants or precursors of hormones and are therefore involved in a great many biochemical and physiological processes. They play a vital role in the maintenance of health, and there is evidence that dietary sources of vitamins have beneficial effects in the prevention of heart-related diseases, bone diseases and possibly cancer. Following introductory chapters on historical and nutritional aspects of vitamins, the next four chapters cover relevant and detailed aspects of physiology and functional anatomy, biochemistry, immunology and the regulation of protein synthesis by nuclear hormone receptors. These background chapters, supported by a glossary of terms, provide the scientific principles upon which vitamin functions are based. The following thirteen chapters deal with each vitamin in turn. Subject areas include chemical structure, intestinal absorption, transport, metabolism, biochemical and physiological actions, immunoregulatory properties, deficiency-related diseases and potential toxicity. An extensive bibliography refers the reader to the original research literature. Vitamins is aimed at nutritionists, biochemists, physiologists and physicians whether they be researchers, teachers or students. Food scientists, food technologists and many others working in the health professions will also find much of use and interest in the book. The inclusion of the theoretical principles in the background chapters makes the book an ideal starting point for those working outside the area who need a solid overview of the subject. |

Homocysteine: Related Vitamins and Neuropsychiatric Disorders $99 During the last 15 years the research on homocysteine and the vitamins involved in its metabolism has become very dynamic. About 1,500 publications on the subject are now published each year. The research has long mainly focused on the association between homocysteine and cardiovascular disease, but also pregnancy complications/ fetal malformations. There is, however, an increasing interest in the connection between the homocysteine metabolism and neuropsychiatric disease with a steeply increasing number of publications. In particular, the association between homocysteine metabolism and cognitive decline/dementia attracts much interest. If simple, non-toxic homocysteine-lowering treatment with vitamins can reduce the incidence of, or delay the onset of dementia, it would have an enormous impact in societies with a rapidly increasing number of elderly at risk for dementia. This book summarises the research within the neuropsychiatric field, but also gives an overview of the underlying biochemistry and of diagnostic aspects. About 1,000 references are given. Christina Bolander-Gouaille, a pharmacist, has for over 10 years specialised in writing reviews/monographs on homocysteine and related vitamins. This is her third book in a series edited by Springer Verlag. This book, however, is written in collaboration with Teodoro Bottiglieri, who is director of neuropharmacology and senior research scientist at Baylor University, Institute for Metabolic Diseases in Dallas, USA. |
