Nail caps on outdoor/indoor cat?

We have an outdoor/indoor stray cat that we’ve adopted (for about a year now), and we just put nail caps on him. I told my mom that since he has nail caps on, he shouldn’t be outside anymore since he can’t defend himself. She says it doesn’t matter, since he’s always defeated by the $@#) next door anyways.

So, should the cat still be allowed outside?

And seriously, none of that “your mom is an idiot” crap. How would you like it if I called your mom an idiot?
We tried putting on socks for him, but he kept pulling them off. So, we bought Soft Claws; they’re glued on to his claws but they’ll fall off in a few weeks when his claws grow out again.

If you put caps on all four paws, then no. Don’t let the cat outside. My own cat, we usually clip his front claws down because he likes to scratch at everything, but his back claws we leave alone (and I got a nail leaving in my arm recently, so beware of that!) in case he escapes outside sometime, so he can defend himself.

If you don’t have caps on two of the paws, he ought to be fine. Cats are fairly in tune with what’s going on with their bodies, even if it’s some foreign object on their claws. They will instinctively attack with what they know will do the damage they want to inflict. Trust me, they’re pretty good at that.
