can you use a weed mat under a lawn to stop the weeds coming through?

I’m having a lawn laid next week and want to prevent the weeds coming through, and would like to know if I can use the same weed mats people use under a flower bed / path.

no… would most likely stop the lawn growing as well. The idea of a weed mat is to stop any plants from growing up through the material you’ve placed on top.

and even if it did work, the weeds would just reseed on top of it in the lawn anyway.
