What can I do to stop my dog from barking at every little dog bark or jingling noise on tv? Drives me crazy!?

We’ve tried squirt bottles, scolding and ignoring! Watching tv with her in the house is painful! She’s a great, mild-mannered dog otherwise. Can this be trained out of her somehow?

Absolutely! I have three beagles… some of the loudest, most annoying dogs there are. They rarely bark now.

One thing that helps is teaching your dog to bark on command. If you let them do it sometimes, it greatly reduces their urge to bark.

Another thing… Your dog is probably barking to warn you of danger. The best thing to do is to talk to her. Point at the TV, or whatever she’s barking at, and tell her in an interested but calm voice that you see the dogs. Thank her for warning you. She’ll sense that you see the ‘danger’, and don’t seem worried, and she won’t be worried either. If you blow off the ‘danger’ by scolding or ignoring her, she’ll just be even more afraid for you.
