Disposable camera shock device questions?

I have some questions about disposable camera tasers/stun guns/shock devices. I was thinking of using the capacitor in a disposable camera to generate a shock. This will not be used to harm anyone/anything.

1. The shock that comes out of my circuit is too painful. Not to mention the current (amps) is too high. How would I decrease the pain/current to a safer level? With a resistor or something? How many ohms?
2. How should I prevent burns? With larger electrodes?
The shock discharges over approximately 1 second when touched.
Should I put the resistor?

What about using the capacitor’s charge circuit to shock?

The easiest way to reduce the current would be to use a smaller capacitor than the one that come on the camera.

Once you’ve done that, use a potentiometer (a variable resistor) to set the voltage to a manageable level – you can then get a fixed resistor to replace the potentiometer, or you can leave the pot in there to make it more versatile.

You really don’t need to worry about getting burns from it, I’ve been shocked by the camera flashes several times and never gotten a burn off from it. But otherwise yes, you would increase the surface area of the electrode to prevent a burn.
