picking my dog up?
One day i was walking my dog in a place we go often. I let him off the lead there, like may others do coz there is no cars. He always stays by my leg and will always come back on the lead when i signal him to. My fella is a tiny terrior – about 8 months old. Another dog was off his leash, a big black dog and he came over to me and my dog growling. I acted calm and just carry on as normal. My little fella loves all dogs, but not agressive ones. My dog jumped up on my legs as the dogs growls were getting lowder. i picked him up and waited a minute, the other dog left and i put my dog down again and then we carried on as normal. he has wanted me to pick him up once or twice before but i didnt, but this time i did feel the other dog was a threat. I heard the other dogs owner saying “huh, i cant believe she picked him up”. Think i was wrong to pick him up?
Do not listen to other dogs owner saying. It is your dog not theirs’. Few dog owners could be mean and they would criticize you and slag you off just like that.
I have learned that from experience and let your instinct tells you. It is your job to avoid confrontation with another dog especially when he is tiny. Learn to study his body language and next time, just call your dog and walk away slowly.
