Is it true that only large male birds have penises?
Its my undestanding that only large birds such as Eagles,Ducks,Geese have penises.If that is so how is procreation done with smaller male birds, i e robins ,cardinals etc.
It’s not about the size of the bird. Whilst the ostrich, the largest of all birds, does have a penis, there are other large birds that don’t, and some small ones, like the buffalo weaver, that do. Eagles actually do not have penises – most birds don’t. They mate simply by pressing their cloacas together (the cloaca is the single opening birds use to excrete, mate and lay eggs) in what is known as a ‘cloacal kiss’. Some duck species have some of the largest penises, relative to body size, in the animal kingdom – longer than their bodies in some cases! See this image:
