We think our dog was abused by previous owner, will she get over it? ?

Our sweet dog is 7 months old we got her a few days ago. When I first saw her she was very cowering and fearful. My thoughts were she was abused. When she got home she was totally cowering especially when my husband would tell her no not to potty on the floor. She did cower at times to me as well. When out at the park she would want to get cuddles from anyone who would pet her. She even got up on this guys lap and stayed there for a long time. The owner was a rancher and gave her back to the trainer because he said she wasn’t strong enough work dog. (Border Collie) I truly feel she may have been hurt by him. My husband and I really want to know if she will ever get over this behavior and what can we do to help her? We thank you for your advice and suggestions. Thank you!!

I have 3 dogs and one of them has a similar problem. I found her at a garage sale. They were trying to give her away and I took her because she acted the exact same way, and looked like she hadn’t had a decent meal in God knows how long. Well that was 3 years ago, and she is a lot better but still cowers once in a while. About all I can say to do is try to be patient and treat her consistently. She will eventually realize that you aren’t going to mistreat her and will start to come around. It may never go away entirely but seeing as how she is only 7 months old I would think that she probably has a good chance of a total recovery. It’s also possible that she is just a very submissive dog. One thing that helped my dog was when I brought two pups home. She was no longer the lowest dog in the pack and that worked wonders for her.

Now there is one. The technical problems with producing such a training collar have been 4 fold. 1) The actual nylon collar needs to be adjustable to a very small neck size. To do so the antenna for the collar receiver needs to be in the receiver not in the collar. The SD70 is such a collar it will fit a dogs necks with a circumference as small as 3 inches. 2) The collar receiver needs to be light weight. The SD70 features a collar receiver weighing only 1 ounce. In fact the entire weight of the collar receiver and the nylon collar and buckle is only 2.2 ounces. 3) The spacing of the probes needs to be small. This means that the distance between the two probes (which deliver the static correction) on the underside of the collar receiver needs to be small. Current receivers have a probe spacing of 1 3/8 inches. That means that the dogs neck needs to be wider than approximately 1 5/8 inches. The Probe spacing on the SD70 is unique. The spacing can be adjusted to either 1 3/8 or just 5/8 of an inch. With a probe spacing of 5/8 your dogGs neck only needs to be 7/8 of an inch wide. 4) Lastly the lower correction level needs to be extremely mild. The SD70 has 4 correction levels of which the lower level is extremely mild.
