Do the rubber Kong Dog Toys smell bad?

I want to buy my friends dog a great toy. Apparently he loves chewing balls but destroys them instantly. Reviews for the Extreme Kong toy looks great but apparently it has a horrible, strong smell?
Thanks guys, this is really reassuring.

I have a konb for my dog… at first they smell just because they are new but the smell goes away and if you just put your nose near it, it smells… but no bigie…
