I’ve put joint compound on blue board walls, treating it like drywall, is it to late to plaster?

So being told there was no difference between drywall and blue board, I replaced old plaster and lathe walls with blue board. However, after trying to tape, mud, and sand joints, it’s not looking right. I spoke to a guy who said that a plasterer handles blue board, but not usually with mud and tape. Any advice on getting my new walls looking good?

Blue board has certain absorbent properties so that it can accept a veneer plaster which means that you can complete the wall faster than with drywall, tape and mud but you could treat it like drywall if you wanted to, it just wouldn’t save you any time or money to do so. Green board is the moisture resistant stuff not blue board. My guess is to apply a thin layer of veneer plaster across the whole surface since that’s what it’s designed for.
