does adopting a dog help a mentally ill person?

my 24 yr old son is schizophrenic. I want to adop a dog for him to be a therapy. but my son says he doesn’t want a dog. should I still get a dog to see if it helps him? thanks.

its not goign to help him if you force him to take care of anothe rlife, a dog, if he really doesnt want to do it
the dog and he wil both suffer

ask him if there is another pet he woudl like
but please dont force a dog on him

he may be schizophrenic, but hes also a grown man, and knows if he does or does not want a dog

i know it must be hard trying to figure out what to do to make him happy, orhelp him, but seriosuly getting him a pet that he doesnt want, is not going to help any of you

you have to talk to him, see what he wants, if he doesnt want any pet, then you try to figure out something else

all you can do is talk to him about it
