Housebreaking Wee Wee

HELP! my puppy is regressing with housebreaking?

I have a 5 month old puppy that I have paper trained since I got her 3 months ago. She has used the Wee Wee pads consistently until the last week.

Now she uses the pad when I am not home but when I am there she goes all over the house.
I thought this was because she wanted to go outside but I can keep her out for hours and as soon as we walk in the door she goes where she’s not supposed to.

I know alot of you out there are against the wee wee pad but it was working for me. I guess I’m seeing why now.

Any suggestions?

Your puppy is old enough to be going into heat, which will make her want to “mark” her territory. She could also have a bladder or kidney infection which makes it impossible for her to control her urges. Any sudden behavior issues should first be evaluated by a Vet to rule out medical causes. Once she has been given a clean bill of health, and is hopefully spayed, then you can work on re-training her to not go in the house at ANY time, wee wee pads or otherwise. Unfortunately, she has been given “permission” to potty in the house since you brought her home, and now you will have to start all over housebreaking her. This is why she refuses to potty outside even when she is out for hours- she thinks you WANT her to only go in the house. Crate training is a WONDERFUL tool for housebreaking dogs, and can be used successfully with dogs of any age. Good Luck!
