Why are so many people concerned with the Obama’s getting a pet?

I see questions every day or comments about what kind of pet (usually a dog) the Obama’s should get. Not everyone wants a pet. That does not make them un-American. Plus, I believe I heard that one of the children has allergies. I love dogs and have 4 of them, but I have friends that don’t care for animals, and they are perfectly wonderful people. Don’t you think the President has enough on his plate right now without being hounded (pardon the pun) into getting a pet.

I think we’re trying to amplify the positives in order to overshadow all the negatives. Plus, a lot of people are excited about having young children in the White House.
